Heywood-Wakefield Ashcraft Coffee Table

A long, low surfboard-top coffee table from Heywood-Wakefield's Ashcraft line, with the turned bamboo-form legs and X-stretcher that define the series. The top is solid wood in the line's warm wheat-toned finish, tapered to one end so it reads as a boomerang from above. 1940s–50s, made in Gardner, Massachusetts.

The Ashcraft line is less common than Heywood-Wakefield's streamlined pieces and sits at the crossroads of mid-century and Hollywood Regency — it pairs with rattan and wicker as easily as with teak.
