Details

The most recognizable mid-century desk clock in America. The Jefferson Golden Hour's hands appear to float in a clear glass disk with no visible movement — a trick so good it earned the nickname "mystery clock" and landed on thousands of desks (including Lucille Ball's) in the 1950s.

This is an early example from the first four years of production, marked PATENT PENDING on the original maroon base plate — before the Prins patent issued in 1953 and Jefferson began stamping the number. Brass base with fluted pedestal, made in Bellwood, Illinois.

Tested and working. Serviced by a West Village clock shop; runs quietly and keeps time.

  • Jefferson Electric Co., Cat. No. 580-101
  • 1949–1953, early production
  • 9" H × 6" W × 4.5" D
  • 115V AC, original cord
  • Slight wear to plating at base edges consistent with age; glass with light haze

A piece that works as well on a nightstand as it does in a window.
