Chromecroft Tulip Dining Table, Smoked Glass

Chromcraft Smoked Glass Tulip Dining Table, c. 1970
A Space Age classic from Chromcraft of Senatobia, Mississippi — the American manufacturer best known for the aluminum "Sculpta" chairs that appeared on the original Star Trek. This is their take on Eero Saarinen's pedestal table: a thick smoked plate glass top with polished beveled edge, floating on a sculptural cast aluminum stem and glossy black base.
The smoked glass and pedestal base keeps the footprint visually weightless — no leg clutter, so chairs tuck in freely from any angle. Seats four armchairs comfortably, or six with two captain's chairs at the ends and four armless chairs along the sides. It's equally strong as a statement game table, breakfast table, or center table in an entry. Pairs beautifully with Lucite or tulip swivel chairs (the period-correct match), cane, chrome, or anything upholstered.
