Ernest Fredericks Woodland Stream at Sunset, Oil on Canvas, c. 1920s–40s

Original impressionist landscape, oil on canvas, by Ernest T. Fredericks (American, 1877–1959), signed. A wooded stream at dusk under a fiery orange and rose sky, the sunset reflected in the still water — painted in the loose, luminous style Fredericks is known for, with olive and sage greens flecked with coral and red.

Fredericks was born Frederick Ernest Swedlun in McPherson, Kansas, trained at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago. He painted outdoors, often in the Ozarks, and spent his later years in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. His works are rarely dated; the Ernest T. Fredericks signature places this before 1950.

Housed in its original gilt wood frame. From a Pittsfield, Massachusetts estate.

Condition: good vintage condition with age-appropriate craquelure to the canvas, most visible in the sky, and light wear to the frame edges. Please see photos.

Dimensions: 32" W × 27" H framed.
